Description

For sample children who did not report ever being knocked out due to a blow or jolt to the head or refused to say or didn't know if they had been (TBILOSTCONEV), TBICONSYMPEV reports whether they have had headaches, vomiting, blurred vision, or changes in mood or behavior as a result of a blow or jolt to the head. If necessary, interviewers prompted respondents to "[p]lease think about all head injuries, for example, from playing sports, car accidents, falls, or being hit by something or someone."

TBICONSYMPEV is collected as part of an emerging content section introduced on the 2020 questionnaire about lifetime head injuries or concussions. For more variables on head injury or concussion, as well as other injury-related variables, please see INJANY.
