Description
For persons covered by private insurance, SURGTYPE reports the type of surgical plan (a plan that paid for surgeon's bills) the person had.
Insurance included all types plans, including plans which paid extra cash in the event of hospitalization, but excluding plans which paid only for accidents.

Universe
- 1976: persons covered by a health insurance plan (excluding Medicare, Medicaid or plans that pay only for accidents) that pays any part of a hospital bill, doctor, or surgeon's bill.
