Description

For all sample adults, SUN1PANT reports how frequently respondents wore long pants or other clothing that reaches the ankles when they went outside on a sunny day for more than one hour.

In 2005 and 2008, respondents were shown a flashcard listing the acceptable response categories, which included, "Always," "Most of the time," "Sometimes," "Rarely," and "Never." In 2010 and forward, respondents were read the same response categories but were not shown a flashcard.

In all years, the survey form instructed interviewers not to read the response category, "don't go out in the sun."

For more information, please see SUN1HR.

Comparability

Despite the change in use of flashcards from 2010 and forward, this variable is generally comparable across survey years.
