Description

For all sample adults, SUN1CAP reports how frequently the respondent would wear a baseball cap or sun visor when outside on a warm sunny day for more than one hour.

In 2005 and 2008, but not 2010 or 2015, respondents were shown a flashcard listing the response categories, which included, "Always," "Most of the time," "Sometimes," "Rarely," and "Never." In all years, the survey form instructed the interviewer to read these response categories but not to read the last choice, "don't go out in the sun." Further, this choice does not appear on the flashcard that respondents were shown in years in which a flashcard is used. In other words, respondents were not given this choice, but it was an acceptable response.

For more information, please see SUN1HR.

Comparability

Despite the use of flashcards before 2010, SUN1CAP is generally comparable across years.
