Description

For sample adults who consumed non-diet soda in the past year, SODASIZ reports the respondent's average portion size (small, medium, or large) when drinking soda or soft drinks. A medium portion was defined as 12 ounces. Researchers may wish to use SODASIZ in conjunction with SODAPNO, which reports the frequency with which the respondent drank soda or soft drinks and SODAPTP, which reports the corresponding time unit.

SODASIZ is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
