Description

For sample respondents age 18 and over who have worked in the past 2 weeks for a private company or in the public sector (but do not travel to different sites or work in a motor vehicle), smoke on some days, and ever smoked while at work, SMOKWORKLESR specifies whether the respondent smoked less at work and if the his or her employer has a policy to restrict smoking.

Related Variables

This is a recoded variable from SMOKEPOLICY, whether the employer has policy that restricts smoking, and SMOKWORKLES, whether the respondent smoked less because of the policy.

Comparability

This variable is only available for 1992.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who work for a private company or the federal, state or local government, who were employed during the past two weeks, who smoke now or smoke some days, and who do not travel to different sites or work in a motor vehicle (or whose type of work area was unknown).
