Description

For respondents age 18 and over who indicated they currently smoke (SMOKENOW =2), SMOKFREQ1 indicates if the respondent smoked cigarettes every day or some days. Respondents who answered no to SMOKENOW were asked, "Do you now smoke cigarettes 'not at all' or 'some days'?" (SMOKFREQ2).

Related Variables

SMOFREQ1 is used with SMOFREQ2, SMOKEV and SMOKENOW to report the recoded variables SMOKESTATUS1 and SMOKESTATUS2.

There are no comparability issues.

Universe

  • 1991: Sample persons age 18+ who have ever smoked 100 cigarettes and currently smoke.
  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have ever smoked 100 cigarettes and currently smoke.
