Description

For sample adults who had used a relaxation technique during the past 12 months (RELBRETHYR, RELGIMYR, RELMEDYR, RELRELAXYR, RELSTRESYR, or RELSUPYR) and who had used a relaxation technique for a specific health problem (RELTREAT), RELNOCONV identifies those who had received no conventional medical treatment for the condition for which they most used relaxation techniques (RELTCONMOST).

The survey question for RELNOCONV collected information about the use of specific conventional medical treatments for the condition for which a relaxation technique was used the most, if the person had received conventional medical treatment. The specific treatments asked about were:

  • Mental health counseling (RELCOUN)
  • Prescription medications (RELPMED)
  • Over-the-counter medications (RELNPMED)
  • Physical therapy (RELPT)

Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which reported relaxation technique was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.

For more information about the full range of variables related to relaxation techniques, including definitions, see RELAXYR.
