Description

For sample persons age 18 years and older who were not employed in the past 2 weeks (EMPSTAT), PHYSACTMA reports the amount of hard physical work in their main daily activity the sample person is required to perform. Possible responses include "Great deal", "Moderate amount", "A little", and "None".

Sample persons who responded either "Great deal" or "Moderate amount" were asked how many days they performed hard physical work in their main daily activity (PHYSACTMAHR).

The field representative's manual states that "Hard Physical Work" as respondent defined. It also states that "if the person does not have a job or business, "main daily activity"... consists of whatever activity the person does most of the day".
