Description

For sample persons age 55 years and older in 1984 who did not use a proxy respondent and sample adults 18 years and older in 1985 and 1990 who were more or less physically active than other people their own age (PHYSACTIVE), PHYSACTAMT reports the sample person's relative activity level compared to their peers.

Responses in 1984 included "Lot more", "Little more", "Lot less", and "Little less". Responses in 1985 and 1990 include "A lot more", "A little more", "A little more", "A lot less", "A little less", "More active; unknown how much", and "Less active, unknown how much".

 

The field representative's manual describe "Physically Active" as respondent defined.

Comparability

Aside from the difference in universe there are no comparability problems with PHYSACTAMT.

Universe

  • 1984: Sample persons age 55+ who did not use a proxy respondent and who were more or less physically active than other people their age.
  • 1985; 1990: Sample persons age 18+ who are more or less active than other persons their age.
