Description
For sample children with at least one residential parent, PAR1MARST indicates the current marital status of that parent. This variable classifies marital status into categories that are comparable to those in the 1997-2018 NHIS. Current marital status for a second residential parent is indicated by PAR2MARST.
This variable was deprecated in 2024. Users looking for a current measure of parental marital status should use PAR1MARCUR.
