Description

For female sample adults age 18 and over who have had a Pap smear/Pap test (PAPEV) with results that were not normal (PAPAB), PAPABSURG reports whether the respondent had surgery or other treatment because of the abnormal results.

Comparability

Other than a slight change in universe between 1987 and subsequent years, this variable is comparable over time.

Universe

  • 1987: Female sample persons age 18+ (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have ever heard of Pap smear test, have ever had a Pap smear, and have ever had abnormal Pap smear results.
  • 2000; 2005: Female sample adults age 18+ who have had abnormal Pap smear results.
