Description

For sample adults who have not taken medication for worry or don't know or refused to say if they have (WORRX) AND who have not taken medication for depression or don't know or refused to say if they have (DEPRX) and sample children between the ages of 2 and 17, MHRX reports if they took prescription medication to help with emotions, concentration, behavior, or mental health in the past 12 months. For sample adults, MHRX refers to prescription medications taken to help with emotions, concentration, behavior, or mental health other than worry or depression. For sample children, MHRX refers to prescription medications to help with emotions, concentration, behavior, or mental health including worry or depression.

MHRX is one of a set of variables covering mental health care. Other mental health care variables include:

• SAWMENT: Saw/talked to mental health professional, past 12 months

• DPCOUNSEL: Now sees a counselor, psychiatrist, psychologist, or social worker regularly

• YDELAYMENTAL: Delayed getting mental health counseling or therapy due to cost, past 12 months

• YBARMENTAL: Needed but couldn't afford mental health care, past 12 months
