Description

For persons with Part B Medicare (which pays for medical coverage) or for whom it is unknown if they have Part B, MCARPLUS reports whether the person was signed up with Medicare Advantage (known as Medicare Plus Choice plans until the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003).

Medicare Advantage plans are plans in which Medicare pays a commercial insurance company a set amount every month for each member. In Medicare Advantage plans, claims are then processed through the commercial insurance company rather than through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
