For sample adults with Medicare (HIMCAREE), MCAREPARTD indicates whether the person is enrolled in the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. Prior to 2019, MCAREPARTD was asked of all persons with Medicare.

Definition
Though no definition is provided to respondents, Part D prescription drug coverage is designed to cover the cost of prescriptions not covered through Medicare Parts "A" (hospital coverage) and "B" (doctor's coverage). Policy owners pay a monthly premium for this extra coverage. The plans are sold by private companies and can vary in cost and drugs covered.

The Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Medicare Part D) went into effect in 2006 and offers prescription drug coverage to everyone with Medicare.
