Description
For sample adult women age 30 and over who ever had a mammogram (MAMEV), MAM1AGEG reports the age, in grouped categories, when she had her first mammogram.
Beginning in 2019, MAM1AGEG is collected every other year as part of a rotating core set of NHIS survey content covering preventive screening services. Please see MAMEV for other related variables covering mammograms.
Comparability
The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note. In 2021, more detail was added to the age category 60 and older, allowing users to distinguish between women who had received their first mammogram between 60 and 74 and women who had received their first mammogram at ages 75 and older.
