Codes and Frequencies
Description
For sample adults age 18 and older, LAWALKCLIMOTH reports whether he/she uses other type of equipment or help when walking, climbing up, or moving around. "Other" does not include: cane or walking stick, walker or Zimmer frame, crutches, wheelchair or scooter, artificial limb (leg/foot), and someone's assistance.
This variable was first introduced in 2010 as part of the Quality of Life supplement and was included in that supplement through 2017. Beginning in 2018, this item was included on the sample adult questionnaire. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
Comparability
Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. Beginning in 2018, this item was included on the sample adult questionnaire. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
