Comparability
This variable is comparable for 2011-2013. In 2014, additional blood pressure screening questions were included to ascertain the time since last blood pressure check; persons who did not know the time since last blood pressure check were asked if they have had their blood pressure checked in the past 12 months. Respondents who broke off participation prior to that question were recorded as Not Ascertained even if they had provided valid responses to the time since last blood pressure check questions. As a result of this change, NHIS reports estimates based on HYPCHEK1YR in 2014 are not comparable with earlier years.
