For sample adults aged 40 years and older, COLTANY1YR indicates if the respondent had any test done for colon cancer in the past 12 months.
Colon cancer tests include blood stool tests, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. A blood stool test is a test that may use a special kit at home to determine whether the stool contains blood. A sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy are exams in which a tube is inserted in the rectum to view the colon for signs of cancer or other health problems.
In the past 12 months, other tests mentioned are:
- Blood pressure
- Blood cholesterol
- Fasting test for high blood sugar/diabetes
- Pap smear/test
This variable can be used to monitor the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
