Description

For sample adults and sample children (and, prior to 2019, persons) whose first private health insurance plan has a high deductible (HIP1HIDEDUCT), HIP1SAVACC indicates if the respondent's plan has a health savings/reimbursement account.

The question text notes that these accounts "are sometimes referred to as Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs), Personal Care accounts, Personal Medical funds, or Choice funds, and are different from Flexible Spending Accounts."

Comparability

HIP1SAVACC is completely comparable before 2019.

The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
