Description

HHWEIGHT92 is an IPUMS NHIS-constructed variable based on the Final Basic Weight excluding the Hispanic oversample in the 1992 NHIS public use files. For analyses using the household as the unit of analysis and pooling the 1991 and 1992 years of data, researchers should use HHWEIGHT92 for 1992 and drop members of the Hispanic oversample (identifiable by values of NHISHID in 1992 that begin with 1991. HHWEIGHT92 represents the inverse probability of household selection into the sample, adjusted for non-response.

Rather than using HHWEIGHT92, researchers should use PERWEIGHT92 for 1992 when analyzing person-level variables using a sample that pools the 1991 and 1992 survey years. See the user note on the Hispanic Oversample for additional information.
