Description

For sample adults who had taken any mixed or single herbal or botanical supplement (2000, 2012) or had used natural herbs for their own health (2002) during the past 12 months (HERYR) and sample children in 2012, HERYMEL indicates whether the person had taken melatonin during the past 12 months.

Melatonin was one of many alternative health treatment modalities included in the 2002 and 2012 Complementary and Alternative Health Supplements. If sample respondents gave a positive response to HERYMEL, they were asked a series of follow-up questions.

Universe

  • 2000: Sample adults age 18+ who took herbal supplements in past 12 months.
  • 2002: Sample adults age 18+ who have used natural herbs for their health during the past 12 months.
  • 2012: Sample adults age 18+ and children ages 4-17 who have taken herbs or other non-vitamin supplements in the past 12 months.
