For sample adults in 2000 and sample adults and children in 2012 who had taken any mixed or single herbal or botanical supplement during the past 12 months (HERYR), HERYGIA indicates whether the person had taken ginseng during the past 12 months.

Ginseng supplements was one of many alternative health treatment modalities included in the 2000 and 2012 Complementary and Alternative Health Supplements. If sample respondents gave a positive response to HERYGIA, they were asked a series of follow-up questions.
