Description

For all persons, FAMHOSPNT reports the number of family members who had an overnight hospital stay in the past 12 months. For all years, persons were instructed not to include an overnight stay in the emergency room. For 2000 forward, persons were instructed to include any new mothers and or babies who were hospitalized for the baby's birth.

Comparability

FAMHOSPNTNO is mostly comparable over time. For 2000 forward, interviewers instructed respondents to include any new mothers and babies who were hospitalized for the baby's birth; in prior years, these instructions were not given. In 2006, the question phrasing related to including any new mothers and babies related to the baby's birth was altered slightly.
