For all persons, FAMDRVIS2W reports whether any family member had an office visit, or saw a health professional at a doctor's office, clinic, emergency room or other place in the past 2 weeks. Interviewers instructed respondents not to include visits for dental care or overnight hospital stays (for 2000 forward).

Respondents were instructed to include visits to all types of doctors, such as dermatologists, psychiatrists, ophthalmologists, and general practitioners as well as care from other health professionals such as nurses, physical therapists, and chiropractors. However, respondents were instructed not to include dental care.

Comparability

There are minor changes in the question for FAMDRVIS2W. For 2000 and 2001, babies born during interview week were excluded. For 2000 forward, respondents were instructed to exclude times during an overnight hospital stay. For all years, respondents were instructed not to include dental care.
