Description

For persons who have lost all of their teeth and have false teeth (FALSTTH), FALSTYPE indicates whether the person has upper and/or lower plates (dentures).

FALSTYPE is part of the Dental Care Supplement and is first available in 1971. In 1989, questions on upper and lower dentures were asked separately of persons who had lost their upper or lower permanent teeth (see FALSTTHUP and FALSTTHLOW). For additional related variables and more information about this supplement, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
