Description

For sample adults who had participated in swimming in the past 2 weeks (EXSWIM), EXSWIMNO reports the number of times the respondent had participated in swimming over those 2 weeks.

After the interviewer determined that a respondent participated in swimming, respondents were asked, "How many times in the past 2 weeks did you go swimming?"

Related Variables 

Respondents were also asked how many minutes on average they had spent doing swimming each time during the past 2 weeks (EXSWIMMIN) and how much their heart rate or breathing had increased while
swimming(EXSWIMBR).

Comparability

Apart from universe changes, EXSWIMNO is fully comparable across all years.

Universe

  • 1985; 1990: Sample persons aged 18-74 who swam in the past 2 weeks.
  • 1991; 1998: Sample persons age 18+ who swam in the past 2 weeks.
  • 1995: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from AIDS supplement) who swam in the past 2 weeks.
