Description

For sample adults who had participated in swimming in the past 2 weeks (EXSWIM), EXSWIMBR reports whether respondents usually experienced a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in their heart rate or breathing while swimming.

After determining that a respondent participated in aerobics or aerobic dancing, respondents were first asked, "How many times in the past 2 weeks did you go swimming?" (EXSWIMNO). They were then asked, "On the average, about how many minutes did you spend swimming?" (EXSWIMMIN). Finally, to obtain information for EXSWIMBR, respondents were asked, "What usually happened to your heart rate or breathing when you go swimming? Did you have a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in your heart rate or breathing?"
