Description

For sample adults who had participated in weight lifting in the past 2 weeks (EXLIFT), EXLIFTBR reports whether respondents usually experienced a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in their heart rate or breathing while weight lifting.

After determining that a respondent participated in aerobics or aerobic dancing, respondents were first asked, "How many times in the past 2 weeks did you go weight lifting?" (EXLIFTNO). They were then asked, "On the average, about how many minutes did you spend weight lifting each time?" (EXLIFTMIN). Finally, to obtain information for EXLIFTBR, respondents were asked, "What usually happened to your heart rate or breathing when you weight lifted? Did you have a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in your heart rate or breathing?"
