For sample children under 18 years of age, EFHFBIGCHANG indicates if the family or any family member made a large change to their regular lives not otherwise specified in the survey because of a health problem of the sampled child.

Potential changes include moving, struggling to make ends meet, taking a new job, not taking a new job, quitting an existing job, a family member leaving home, or a family member getting a divorce.

EFHFBIGCHANG was first introduced in 1981 as part of a supplement on child health. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
