Description
For sample adults who were ever told that they had coronavirus (CVDDIAG) or COVID-19 or tested positive for COVID-19 (CVDTESTRSLT), CVDLOSETASTE indicated whether they have lost their sense of taste or if they have unwanted tastes or sensations that did not go away.
This variable is one of four COVID-related questions sponsored in 2021 by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). For more information on other sponsored variables related to a loss of taste or smell, see the description for TSTSMDOC.
NCHS added nearly 30 questions related to COVID starting in quarter 3 of the 2020 NHIS questionnaire, eight of which are asked of both sample adults and sample children. For the full list of variables, as well as information about COVID-related changes to the NHIS, please see the user note.
