Codes and Frequencies
Description
CVDTESTRSLT indicates if a respondent has had test results indicating they had coronavirus or COVID-19.
NCHS added nearly 30 questions related to COVID starting in quarter 3 of the 2020 NHIS questionnaire, eight of which are asked of both sample adults and sample children. For the full list of variables, as well as information about COVID-related changes to the NHIS, please see the user note.
Analysts will need to adjust the sampling weights to account for the limited collection period and sample changes in 2020. For an example of how to do this, including sample code, please see the sampling weight adjustment section of the Variance Estimation User Note.
Comparability
In 2020 and 2021, there is a prerequisite question about having taken a covid test at all, CVDTEST. In 2022, this question is no longer present. Instead, all sample adults and children are asked if they have ever had a positive COVID-19 test result in CVDTESTRSLT.
