Description

For sample persons age 17 and older who are current smokers and ever seriously attempted to quit smoking, CSQSTARTTP reports a type of time period associated with a numerical response (CSQSTARTNO) that reports time since the start of the person's last attempt to quit smoking. Users should combine these two variables to determine the length of time since the person's last attempt to quit smoking. Please see universe tab for detailed information about who was asked this question.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
