Description

For sample persons age 17 and older who ever smoked 100 cigarettes, ever smoked regularly, currently smoke, and ever seriously attempted to quit smoking, CSQSERTRYNO reports the total number of times the person made a fairly serious attempt to stop smoking cigarettes entirely.

Comparability

In 1978 and 1980 this question was asked only in quarters 3 and 4. Changes in survey design affect raw frequencies but do not affect comparability between samples. As always, data users should apply prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights. Aside from changes in the universe between years there are no comparability issues with this variable.
