Codes and Frequencies
Description
For sample adults age 17 and older who ever smoked 100 cigarettes, ever smoked regularly, smoke now, and ever seriously attempted to quit smoking CSOFFINTERV reports the interval the person was not smoking cigarettes during their most recent serious attempt to quit. Intervals are presented in categories by number of days, weeks months or years. Please see Codes tab for details about categories.
Comparability
In 1978 and 1979, this question was asked in Quarters 3 and 4. In 1980, it was asked in all quarters. Changes in sampling design affect raw frequencies but do not affect comparability between samples. As always, data users should use prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights. There are no comparability issues with this variable.
