Description

For sample adults who had an oral cancer exam (CORALEXAMEV, CORALEXNECK, CORALEXTONG) within the past three years, CORALEXAMHP reports the type of health personnel seen for the last oral cancer exam.

For more information, please see CORALEXAMEV and CORALEXHEAR.

Comparability

There were some changes to make the response categories more inclusive in 2008 compared to 1992. These included the use of 'Doctor/Physician' in 2008 instead of only 'Physician' in 1992 and the use of 'Dentists (including oral surgeons orthodontists)' instead of only 'Dentist' in the same years respectively. Also, the 2008 survey included a 'Nurse/nurse practitioner' category which the 1992 survey did not. Researchers wishing to group all nurses and nurse practitioners into the other category should combine codes 40 and 41. Aside from these considerations, CORALEXAMHP is generally comparable through time.
