Description

For sample children under age 18, CONSTIPYR reports responses to the question, "During the past 12 months, has [sample child] had ... Recurring constipation?" The inquiry did not specify that the condition had to be diagnosed by a doctor or other health professional.

Comparability

CONSTIPYR is only available in 2007.

In 2002 and 2007, BOWELIRINFEV identifies sample adults who were ever told by a doctor or other health professional that they had inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel, or constipation severe enough to require medication. Respondents with an affirmative response in BOWELIRINFEV were asked if they had each of the conditions during the past 12 months. In 2007, sample adults who had the condition during the past 12 months were asked whether the specific condition they experienced was inflammatory bowel disease (BOWELINFYR), irritable bowel (IRRBOWELYR), or constipation severe enough to require medication (BOWELCONYR).
