Description

For respondents age 17+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire lives, who had ever smoked regularly and who smoke now, or who do not smoke now but stopped smoking regularly less than 1 year ago, CIGTARLEVR2 is a recoded version of CIGTARLEVindicates the tar level of the brand respondent smoked most. In CIGTARLEVR2, tar levels are recoded into categories.

Comparability

The universe for 1978 and 1980 only include sample persons age 17+ in quarters 3 and 4. Otherwise, there are no comparability issues with this variable.

  • 1978; 1980: Sample persons age 17+ in quarters 3 and 4 who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire lives, who ever smoked regularly, and who smoke now or who do not smoke now but stopped smoking regularly less than 1 year ago.
  • 1979: Sample persons age 17+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire lives, who ever smoked regularly, and who smoke now or who do not smoke now but stopped smoking regularly less than 1 year ago.
