Description

For sample persons less than 6 years old who were ever breastfed (BREFEV) and whose respondent was their biological mother, BREFONPILL indicates whether the mother took birth control pills while breastfeeding.

The Field Representative's Manuals for 1981 notes that breastfeeding includes feeding by a wet nurse or if the mother's milk was given to the child through a bottle. Further, the Manualdirects interviewers to footnote the situation (either "wet nurse," "bottle," or "natural").

No definition or criteria is given for "birth control pills."
