For sample persons aged 18 and over who have donated blood since 1985 and think that blood donations are regularly tested for HIV, BDYAIDS reports if the reason why the person donated blood was to have his or her blood tested for HIV.

This variable is part of the NHIS supplement on AIDS knowledge and attitudes. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues for this variable. Changes in survey design (e.g. quarters or subsamples) affect raw frequencies but do not affect comparability between samples. As always, data users should apply prescribed IHIS weights.
