For female sample adults ages 18 and older who have ever used birth control, including oral contraception (birth control pills), a patch, a ring, injection, IUD (intrauterine device), or an implant, BCNO reports the number of time units that the respondent used birth control. Refer to BCTP for the associated time period (weeks, months, or years).

BCNO was first introduced in 2005 as part of a supplement on adult cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
