Description

For sample adults who report having tinnitus with symptoms of dizziness or a balance problem, BALWOTIN reports whether the person has tinnitus only when they have the dizziness problem or regardless of the dizziness problem. The survey includes instructions to indicate that "only when" refers to "around the same time, or just before, during or following" the dizziness problem.

This variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

Comparability

Please see the Universe Tab for information on how this variable changes over time. In 2008, this variable corresponds to the most bothersome dizziness symptom (BALSBOTHER). In 2016, the question refers more generally to whether the action usually happens around the same time as dizziness or balance problem(s); otherwise this variable is largely comparable over time.
