For sample adults and sample children who have seen a practitioner for ayurveda during the past 12 months (AYUYR), AYUINSURE indicates whether any of the costs of using ayurveda were covered by insurance.
The NHIS alternative medicine supplements cover a range of alternative health practices (see ACUYR). Although information about insurance coverage of ayurveda is not available for 2007, data about the average out-of-pocket cost (in dollars) per visit to an ayurveda practitioner is available (AYUPAID).
In addition to collecting information on insurance coverage for ayurveda, the 2002 and 2012 survey asked whether any of the costs of respondents' use of nine other alternative treatment modalities was covered by insurance. See ACUINSURE for the full list.
