Description

For sample persons ages 18 and over who reported having their blood tested for the AIDS virus infection, ATPRDOC reports if any of the respondent's tests were because of referral by a doctor. Respondents who reported having donated blood after 1985 were not included in this sample unless they specifically reported having had an AIDS test.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues for this variable. Changes in survey design (e.g. quarters or subsamples) affect raw frequencies but do not affect comparability between samples. As always, data users should apply prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
