Description

For sample persons ages 18 and over who reported having their blood tested for the AIDS virus infection, ATPBT reports if any of the respondent's tests were part of a blood transfusion. Respondents who reported having donated blood after 1985 were not included in this sample unless they specifically reported having had an AIDS test.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues for this variable. Changes in survey design (e.g. quarters or subsamples) affect raw frequencies but do not affect comparability between samples. As always, data users should apply prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1988: Sample persons age 18+ in quarter 3 (5th week) and quarter 4 who have heard of blood test for AIDS virus infection and have had blood tested.
  • 1989: Sample persons age 18+ who have ever heard of a blood test for the AIDS virus infection and have had blood tested for the AIDS virus infection.
