Description

For sample adults age 20 and over, AMTWINE reports how many drinks of wine the respondent usually has in one sitting. Researchers interested in quality of alcohol consumed can also refer to AMTBEER, the usual number of drinks of beer in one sitting, and AMTLIQUOR, the usual number of drinks of liquor in one setting.

The question for AMTWINE was asked for a sub-sample of randomly selected persons age 20 and over; NHIS automatically classifies persons who were selected but did not complete the questions as not in universe for this variable. Users may choose to use this variable in combination with SUBSRESP77, which reports the person's sub-sample status in 1977.
