Description

For sample persons age 18 and over who ever had at least 12 drinks in any one year, ALCPHELTHR is a recoded version of two variables, indicating whether the respondent ever had a health problem related to drinking (ALCPHELTHEV) and, if so, whether that problem occurred in the past year (ALCPHELTHYR). The term health problem was respondent defined.

ALCPHELTHR was part of a supplement on alcohol and health practices in 1983. Please use the IPUMS NHIS drop down menu and search functions for related variables.
