Description

For sample adults who had at least one alcoholic drink in the past year or don't know if they had an alcoholic drink in the past year (ALCANYNO), ALCDRKHVY12M reports whether they had 4 or more (women) or 5 or (men or those who refused to say or don't know their sex) alcoholic drinks in an occasion at any time in the past year. This variable is an NCHS-created recode of responses to ALCAMT, ALC5UPEVYR, and ALC5UPEVYR.

Beginning in 2020, ALCDRKHVY12M is included as part of the rotating core of NHIS alcohol use questions, fielded every other year. For more information about the NHIS alcohol use rotating core, please see ALCDRINKEV.
