Description

For sample adults who have had at least one alcoholic drink in their entire life (ALCDRINKEV), ALCANYNOE reports the number of days (every day or the number of days per week, month, or year) for the frequency with which the person drinks alcohol, edited for consistency. In ALCANYNOE, inconsistent time periods, such as greater than 7 days per week or greater than 31 days per month, are recoded to a value of "inconsistent." Values coded as "inconsistent" on ALCANYNOE are also coded as "inconsistent" on ALCANYTPE. ALCANYNOE should be paired with ALCANYTPE (Frequency drank alcohol in past year: Edited time period) to obtain the complete frequency of alcohol consumption. An unedited version of ALCANYNOE, ALCANYNO is also available and is more comparable with earlier years of data.

Beginning in 2020, ALCANYNOE is collected as part of the rotating core of NHIS alcohol use questions, fielded every other year. For more information about the NHIS alcohol use rotating core, please see ALCDRINKEV.

Comparability
