Description

For sample persons age 18 and older in 1991 and 1992, sample persons age 18 and older who ever heard of a test for HIV, or it was unknown if they had heard of a test for HIV, but who donated blood since March 1985 in 1988 and 1989, and sample persons age 18 and older who reported when they last saw, heard, or read something about AIDS or who ever heard of AIDS and heard of a blood test for AIDS infection in 1987, AIDTBDEV indicates if the person has ever had the blood test for the AIDS virus infection, including tests conducted as part of blood donation, assuming the blood donation was after March 1985.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1987: Sample persons age 18+ in Q3 (5th week) and Q4 who reported when saw/heard/read something about AIDS or who ever heard of AIDS and who have ever heard of a blood test for AIDS infection.
  • 1988: Sample persons age 18+ in quarters 2 through 4 who ever heard of a test for HIV or for whom it was unknown whether they had ever heard of a test for HIV but who had donated blood since March 1985.
  • 1989: Sample persons age 18+ who ever heard of a test for HIV or for whom it was unknown whether they had ever heard of a test for HIV but who had donated blood since March 1985.
  • 1991: Sample persons age 18+.
  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+.
